To react to the Intolerable Acts, colonial leaders from every colony except Georgia called a meeting in Philadelphia. In September 1774, the delegates gathered in what became known to be as the First Continental Congress. After much debate, the delegates passed a resolution backing Massachusetts in is struugle against the Intolerable Acts. They agreed to boycott all British goods and stop exporting goods to Great Britain until the harsh laws were repealed. The delegates urged each colony to set up and train its own militia in case of an emergency. These men were called minute men because they could be ready at a minutes notice. Right before the delegates left Philadelphia, they agreed to meet again the following May. But by then the Revolutionary War would have been triggerd.
